It was a moment of pride and joy for the people of Kerala in India when Vincy Aloshious, a top film celebrity, won the prestigious Kerala State Award for Best Actress on Friday. While actors Sangita Madhavan Nair from Kottakkal and Swetha Menon from Valanchery had previously brought the same award to Malappuram, Vincy’s victory is particularly special as she hails from the port town of Ponnani in the district.
In fact, Vincy was born, raised, and still resides near the harbor in Ponnani in Malappuram district of Kerala. As soon as the announcement of the state award was made, her neighbors flocked to Vincy’s home, Palayoor House, a two-storeyed building in the coastal town. Others from nearby areas also hurried to Vincy’s residence with their families to shower her with congratulations.
The entire town came alive with celebration. Palayoor House was adorned with Christmas decor, including a manger and stars, adding to the festive atmosphere. Vincy’s parents, Aloshious and Sony, welcomed everyone into their home and offered sweets like laddoos and cake to share the joy of their daughter’s achievement. Meanwhile, Vincy received calls from prominent figures in the Malayalam movie industry, including director Lal Jose and actor Dileep.
From a young age, Vincy was inspired by television interviews featuring actors like Kavya Madhavan and dreamed of a career in films. As a Plus-Two (Class 12) student, Vincy participated in mono-act competitions and reached the district level. Vincy’s ancestors originally hailed from Mullassery in Thrissur district. Her grandmother, Mary, was appointed as a teacher at a school in Biyyam near Ponnani, leading the family to shift to their current location several decades ago.
Vincy’s grandfather, Poulose, who had been working in Singapore, retired and settled in Ponnani with his family. Today, Vincy resides close to her ancestral house in Ponnani, along with her brother Vibin, who works in Muscat. The entire family eagerly anticipates the state award being displayed in the small showcase in the living room of Palayoor House.
