Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, has concluded one of its busiest summer travel periods to date, transporting over 14 million passengers across six continents between June and August. The airline achieved impressive seat load factors of more than 80% across its global network during this period.
Despite challenges such as rising cost-of-living pressures in various markets, Emirates observed resilient travel demand across its extensive network. The airline’s booking trends indicate a sustained desire for international travel, both to Dubai and via its hub. Notably, two million passengers traveled to Dubai during the summer months, drawn by the city’s year-round attractions and events.
Emirates experienced strong inbound travel markets to Dubai during the summer, with significant visitors arriving from the UK, India, Germany, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, China, Egypt, and Kuwait. A notable aspect was the presence of families, constituting over 35% of Dubai-bound travelers. These families enjoyed an average stay of more than two weeks, exploring the city’s captivating sites and attractions.
As winter approaches, Emirates anticipates another surge in demand for travel to Dubai, driven by an array of global conferences, top-notch sporting events, and other attractions. In the first half of 2023 alone, Dubai welcomed more than 8.5 million international visitors, surpassing the previous year’s numbers by over a million.
Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the enduring value of travel for various purposes and the crucial role international air connectivity plays in connecting communities. The airline’s proactive approach to restoring its flight schedules enabled it to meet customer demand effectively and enhance Dubai’s appeal as a destination.
Emirates operated nearly 50,000 flights to and from 140 cities across the globe during the summer, solidifying its reputation as a reliable choice for travelers. With partnerships spanning 157 airlines and rail networks, Emirates offers passengers convenient access to more than 800 cities in 100 countries beyond its own network.
