Navigating Traffic Fines in UAE Just Got Easier
It’s no secret that many UAE drivers find themselves dealing with traffic fines or accumulating black points on their records. However, there’s good news for those looking to lessen the burden of these penalties. The UAE’s Ministry of Interior (MoI), in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police, has introduced measures to grant motorists the opportunity to reduce fines and eliminate black points from their records.
A Path to Savings: How It Works
In a recent reminder, the Abu Dhabi Police announced that motorists can avail of a generous 35% discount through a specialized traffic fine payment plan. This awareness campaign was initially rolled out last year. In a similar vein, Sharjah has also implemented a scheme that rewards early fee payments with discounts.
For drivers who settle their traffic fines within two months (60 days) of the violation, a 35% discount is offered. Additionally, a 25% discount is extended within a year, excluding serious infractions from this benefit. Notably, this initiative supports those seeking financial flexibility, as the fines can be paid in interest-free installments over a 12-month period.
Seamless Payment Channels
The authorities have established an array of channels through which traffic fines can be settled. These include the digital platforms of the Abu Dhabi government, such as “Tamm”, direct payment options through the police’s customer service and happiness platforms, and the mobile apps of collaborating banks. These banks encompass well-known institutions like Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Mashreq Al Islami, and Emirates Islamic Bank.
To access this service, drivers need credit cards issued by one of the participating banks. To initiate the process, motorists must contact their bank within a two-week timeframe from the booking date and request a fine payment plan.
The overarching goal of these efforts is to enhance convenience for drivers and vehicle owners, allowing them to gradually clear their traffic violation fines throughout the year.
Erase Black Points with Careful Driving
For those grappling with negative traffic points on their driving licenses, there’s a chance to make a positive change. The UAE’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has revealed that responsible drivers can shed four traffic points from their records by driving safely on the first day of the new academic year.
Aligned with the MoI’s accident-free day initiative, this opportunity coincides with August 28, when numerous students return to school following the summer break. These negative points serve as a penalty for severe traffic violations and can result in license suspension upon accumulation of 24 points.
Seizing the Opportunity
Interested motorists must first pledge their commitment to safe driving on the MoI’s website. Following this, on August 27, they are urged to steer clear of traffic violations and accidents, helping them earn a cleaner driving record.
