Vibrant Celebrations: Żebbuġ Honors the Feast of the Assumption

Żebbuġ, located in Gozo, is gearing up to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady. The festivities kick off tomorrow with Masses scheduled at 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 11:15 AM, and 6:00 PM. Notably, Bishop Anton Teuma will lead a special Pontifical Mass in conjunction with the parish clergy at 9:00 AM.

Adding to the excitement, lively marches will resonate through the village’s main streets at 11:30 AM. Later in the day, at 7:15 PM, a procession featuring the statue of Our Lady, led by Can. John Muscat and accompanied by the Santa Marija Band will captivate onlookers. Simultaneously, the Leone Band will serenade the main square with a captivating concert. As the procession culminates around 10:00 PM, a spectacular fireworks display promises a fitting finale.

Monday brings a day of thanksgiving, marked by Archpriest John Sultana’s 7:00 PM Mass. Subsequently, the revered statue of Our Lady will be carefully returned to its niche.

For those unable to attend in person, the celebrations will be live-broadcasted on Radju Għażżiela 101.4FM, streamed online, and featured on Xejk TV.

Historically, Żebbuġ was established as a parish on April 28, 1688. Interestingly, its first parish priest, Dun Franġisk Vella, hailed from the same village. The construction of the present church began in 1690, with its consecration taking place on September 30, 1726.
