Demand for UAE Visa Change by Bus Leads to Week-Long Waiting Times

Travel agents reveal that changing UAE visit visas by bus to Oman is in high demand, causing week-long waiting times for available tickets. Discover the challenges faced by visitors seeking visa changes and the implications for travel plans.

As the option to change UAE visit visas by traveling to Oman by bus gains popularity, travel agents are witnessing an overwhelming surge in demand, resulting in extensive waiting periods for available tickets. Agents have reported that the earliest available ticket for the service is now a week away.

Visitors who seek to change their visas through this method are advised to plan well in advance, considering the scarcity of tickets and the burgeoning interest in the option.

“Every day we receive numerous phone calls for visa changes, and a significant portion of these inquiries is from individuals wanting to travel by bus. Bus travel is viewed as more cost-effective, and the journey itself offers passengers engagement,” stated Shaikh Abdulla, visa in-charge at Al Jazeera Travels.

To secure bus service for visa alteration, individuals are recommended to make reservations at least nine days prior to their intended travel date, ensuring a smoother process and availability of tickets.

Al Khanjari Transport, situated near Danata in Deira, stands as the sole road service provider between Dubai and Muscat. We reached out to the service provider’s office and learned that the next available bus ticket to Muscat falls on a night bus scheduled for August 29. The operator informed us, “Buses are operating at full capacity until August 28. I can issue a ticket for the August 29 bus, which is filling up rapidly.”

The service provider conducts three daily round trips between Dubai and Muscat, departing at 9 am, 3 pm, and 9 pm, with a ticket cost of Dh100 per passenger.

Numerous passengers have been observed queuing at Al Khanjari Transport in pursuit of a ticket. However, a significant portion of these hopeful travelers has been left disappointed, unable to secure a ticket for their desired travel date. Abdul Hameed, who needed a ticket for August 26 for a visa change as his visa was set to expire on August 27, shared his experience. He expressed his choice to alter his visa by air travel due to the absence of bus tickets, despite the additional cost. “I will have to spend an extra Dh500 as I opt for flying in and out. Remarkably, the total duration of both journeys is quite comparable,” said Hameed.

Ramesh Muliyakkal, a resident of Sohar in Oman, expressed frustration over his inability to secure a bus ticket for his return journey. He shared his routine of traveling to Dubai every six months for business purposes and mentioned that securing a ticket just two days prior to his travel date used to suffice. However, the current unavailability of seats poses a challenge, compelling him to opt for a flight back to Oman. Muliyakkal, who manages a perfume store in Oman, emphasized the shift in his travel plans due to these circumstances.

In yet another noteworthy international development, which is bound to bring relief to Kerala expatriates concerned about flight costs, Fujairah International Airport is now open to airlines for initiating flights to and from various Indian cities.

Ismail Al Balushi, General Manager of Fujairah International Airport, recently shared that the airport is ready to collaborate with Kerala to provide cost-effective flight services for expatriates residing in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Umm al-Quwain Emirates.

Apart from regular services, the airport will also be available for chartered flights. This novel offering presents an alternative solution to address the pressing travel challenges faced by Indian expatriates.

The invitation to companies to initiate flights has been extended after ensuring seamless transport connectivity to any emirate in the UAE from Fujairah Airport.

Currently, Oman-owned Salam Air is the sole airline taking advantage of this opportunity to operate budget-friendly flights to Kerala via Fujairah Airport. Booking tickets two weeks in advance allows passengers to travel to Thiruvananthapuram for just 450 dirhams (approximately Rs 10,000). Salam Air also operates flights to Indian cities like Lucknow and Jaipur.

The flight to Thiruvananthapuram involves an hour’s layover in Muscat. The entire travel duration amounts to six hours. Booking in advance provides the opportunity to return to the UAE at the same rate. Flights via Muscat receive 100% patronage from Fujairah itself.

Given the circumstances, if direct flights to Kerala are launched from Fujairah, there is a high likelihood of attracting ample passengers, the official stated.

Fujairah airport authorities have already held discussions with Air India Express, IndiGo, Akasha, and SpiceJet. Air India officials have also visited the airport.

Purushothaman Vaidyanathan, Operations Manager at Fujairah airport, mentioned that all the airlines have shown keen interest in launching the service. The commitment made to these airlines is to minimize airport costs as much as possible. Flights from India to Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi airports fly over Fujairah. Landing at Fujairah can reduce distance and fuel consumption for planes.

The first six hours of parking in Fujairah are free for flights. Additionally, an arrangement is in place to set an acceptable fee for airlines for parking beyond six hours. Standard parking can accommodate eight planes, and there are also 18 non-standard parking slots available. The passenger gates can handle up to 1250 passengers simultaneously. Passengers disembarking from the plane require a maximum of seven minutes to collect their baggage and exit, according to Purushothaman.

Departing passengers can also avail the convenience of city check-in from home or their residing emirate, allowing them to drop off their luggage 24 hours in advance. No parking fee is charged for vehicles within the airport premises, confirmed Business Division Officer Mohamed Shinaz.

Fujairah Airport, operational since 1988, recently commenced passenger services following a substantial period of renovation work. Runway re-carpeting has been successfully completed. Two new runways are in the pipeline for the airport. A new Air Traffic Control (ATC) center will be inaugurated in September to replace the existing one. Shinaz highlighted that airlines could save on aerobridge rental costs as passengers can directly board the aircraft from the passenger gate. “We are fully committed to assisting airlines in minimizing their airport-related expenses,” he emphasized.

  • Airfares between Kerala and UAE Skyrocket as Summer Vacation Ends

Airfares between Kerala and UAE Skyrocket as Summer Vacation Ends

As the summer vacation season draws to a close, airfares between Kerala and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have experienced a significant surge. Travelers returning from their holidays are facing steep increases in flight prices, causing concern among many individuals and families.

The demand for flights between Kerala and the UAE typically rises during the summer months as many expatriate residents of the UAE travel back to their home state of Kerala, India, to spend time with their families. This annual influx of travelers has often led to increased airfare prices due to the limited availability of seats.

This year, however, the situation appears to be more pronounced, with reports indicating a substantial spike in airfares compared to previous years. The exact reasons for this surge in prices are multifaceted and could be attributed to a combination of factors such as increased demand, limited flight options, and potential changes in airline policies.

Many travelers have expressed frustration over the sharp increase in airfares, especially considering that the summer vacation is ending and families are returning to work and school schedules. Some individuals have reported paying significantly higher prices for flights compared to their outbound journey earlier in the season.

For those who rely on annual visits to their home country to reconnect with their families, these exorbitant airfare prices present a financial burden. Families are being forced to reevaluate their travel plans and budget accordingly to accommodate the unexpected surge in flight costs.

The rise in airfares has prompted discussions among travel experts and authorities about the need for more transparent pricing mechanisms and regulations to prevent such drastic fluctuations in ticket prices. It’s essential to ensure that individuals are not exploited during peak travel seasons and that air travel remains accessible to all segments of society.

Travelers are advised to carefully compare prices across different airlines, book flights well in advance, and explore flexible travel dates to mitigate the impact of high airfare costs. Additionally, staying updated with any potential changes in airline policies or travel restrictions is crucial, as these factors can also influence ticket prices and travel plans.

As the summer vacation season comes to an end and families return from their visits, the concerns surrounding skyrocketing airfares between Kerala and the UAE serve as a reminder of the importance of affordable and accessible air travel options for individuals and families who wish to stay connected across borders.
